Leila Mintas, the previous head of PlayUp USA, has joined forces with others to establish a new enterprise called PlayEngine and will be its chief executive.

PlayEngine is a “microservices-based” business-to-business sports wagering and online gaming platform. The company asserts it will “furnish clients with customized, individualized solutions that are dependable, adaptable, swift, and secure.”

Its sports betting offering will permit clients to receive payments from both digital currencies and traditional currencies and will feature a “travel wallet” that enables players to utilize the same digital wallet across various regions.

PlayEngine initially emerged from the Berkeley Skydeck startup incubator.

“I am delighted to be a co-founder and the chief executive of PlayEngine,” stated Leila Mintas. “The sports betting and online gaming market is excessively competitive to depend on outdated technology.

“There is a substantial requirement for nimble and contemporary technology, and I am certain that we possess the most automated and data-driven product available, which will empower sports betting and online gaming operators to provide cutting-edge, sturdy, and lucrative products to their ultimate consumers.”

Aram Cherkezian, another co-founder of PlayEngine, remarked that Mintas’s expertise makes her the ideal individual to guide the company.

Dr. Mintas is a seasoned leader in the realm of sports wagering and digital gaming, having established prosperous enterprises. She is now joining a new venture, and we are thrilled to welcome her.

Leila Mintas previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer for PlayUp’s U.S. operations and served as Vice President of Sportradar, overseeing operations in the United States.

However, her exit from PlayUp sparked a legal dispute. PlayUp alleged that Mintas intentionally undermined a transaction to sell the business to the cryptocurrency platform FTX due to failed contract negotiations. PlayUp pursued legal action and secured a temporary injunction against Mintas.

Mintas refuted the accusations and challenged the temporary injunction. In December, a U.S. District Judge in Nevada ruled in favor of Mintas, nullifying the order. This verdict was subsequently upheld by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
